Kyoto is famous for the production of Buddhist prayer beads (Juzu, Nenju), these bracelets are handmade following this long tradition. Each bracelet is handmade from 108 small beads using a combination of lignum vitae wood, and jadeite, and strung onto silk elastic cord. Lignum vitae comes from Latin and means "tree of life" or "wood of life" because of its wide range of medicinal uses.
