I didn't know exactly how long I wanted the sequin overlay to go, so I just made sure to leave enough length so I could cut it down: I also inserted some thin flesh colored transparent ribbons between the front of the dress and the facing, to use as straps, since the strapless dress didn't want to stay up on it's own : I decided to cut the tulle following the line of the chevron
